“I actually started at Aktiv Kapital as an assistant to the country manager. The job specification I took on was fairly limited and didn’t stretch me that much. But that soon changed,” explains Maya. “I arrived with a good education – including an economics degree from the LSE in London – and knew I could contribute more than the role originally entailed. I soon pushed for greater responsibilities and was rewarded with a much wider remit.”
This eventually led to Maya becoming a project manager. “I joined the company as it was expanding and my country manager really supported my efforts to move upward.
“I can see this supportive approach throughout the organisation and amongst all employees. If you want to fulfil your potential the opportunities are always there. It really proved to me that a good employer like Aktiv Kapital will always recognise talent and commitment.”
Maya now has responsibility managing contract details when new portfolio purchases are made - including such activities as due diligence. She also runs a number of group-level projects, including ‘The Voice’, the company’s regular employee survey. Coordination of the office move – a major task for a fast-expanding company – was also undertaken by Maya.
Maya is really positive about the working environment. “There’s an enthusiasm in the office that’s tangible. This leads to greater employee commitment, resulting in more business for the company, which in turns brings renewed enthusiasm. It’s a truly beneficial cycle. Also, because the company is growing so swiftly, opportunities are always there. This makes it a truly exciting place to work.”
She concludes: “Coming and working at Aktiv Kapital was a big change from working in my family’s small business. But the company in general and my job in particular have really filled me with passion. I can’t imagine working at any company that I would enjoy more.”
